Early on cracks in the turbines were dangerous enough to force reinforcemnent of the engine bay. Engine also prone to compressor stalls which could result in severe yaw oscillations which could cause a unrecoverable flat spin. At certain altitudes the exhaust of a launched missle could create a compressor stall.
